When life feels temporary for longer than you expected
You might be settled into Doha and still answer questions about the future with 'we will see after this contract'. That can leave important parts of life on hold. Whether to invest in friendships, change work or discuss having children may feel tied to a decision nobody is ready to make.
Or the difficulty may be repeated goodbyes. A friend leaves, your own plans change, or family visits become harder to arrange. Starting again socially can feel exhausting when you have already done it more than once. Therapy gives those losses time and attention.
These are possible experiences, not a description of everyone in Qatar. We begin with what your life is actually like: who is around you, what feels uncertain and which choices you have. You do not need to prove that living abroad is the cause of everything.
What would you like help with?
I stop getting close because people leave
Protecting yourself from another goodbye may also leave you isolated now. We can explore what previous losses have meant to you and what kind of connection feels possible in your present life.
We cannot agree whether to stay in Doha
One partner may value continuity while the other misses family or a career left behind. We can make both positions clearer and examine what each option would change.
I worry about the next contract all the time
Uncertainty about work can spill into sleep, patience and everyday decisions. We can distinguish practical questions that need action from worry that keeps repeating without helping you decide.
Making a decision without making one person the problem
A conversation about leaving Qatar can quickly become an argument about gratitude or commitment. We can slow it down: what would staying protect, what would leaving restore, and what would either decision cost each of you?
You can explore these questions individually or together. Therapy does not choose your country for you. It offers a place to understand the emotional and relationship pressures around the decision. If you moved for a partner, the guide to identity loss after relocation may help you name what has changed.
An English-speaking therapist, online from the UK
I am Kita Tabachka, a Bulgarian-born, UK-based relational therapist. I work with individuals and couples, including people living abroad. You can read about my approach and check my BACP registration.
Individual therapy: £70 for 50 minutes.
Couples therapy: £100 per couple for 70 minutes.
Appointments take place online through Carepatron. Fees are charged in British pounds. The first consultation is free and lasts 15–20 minutes. Read the fees and starting process.
Doha is two hours ahead of the UK during British Summer Time and three hours ahead during UK winter time. For example, 10:00 UK time is 12:00 or 13:00 in Doha. I work Monday to Friday; tell me which days fit your own working week. Examples do not represent available slots.
I do not have a clinic in Doha. BACP registration is my UK professional registration, not a claim of local registration in Qatar. Before paid therapy is agreed, I check your physical location, relevant professional and insurance arrangements, privacy and whether this service fits your needs. Read about online therapy across borders.
For couples, both partners attend the consultation. Individual background meetings usually follow before joint sessions, with their purpose, fees and confidentiality arrangements agreed first. If you need immediate help or cannot stay safe, contact local emergency or crisis services; this practice is not an emergency service.
Questions about therapy from Doha
Are you based in Doha?
No. I am UK-based and work online. I do not have a clinic in Doha or claim local professional registration. Before accepting paid therapy, I check your physical location, relevant professional and insurance arrangements, and suitability.
Can I talk about leaving Doha even if I have no plan yet?
Yes. You can bring uncertainty rather than a finished decision. We can explore what staying or leaving would mean, the pressures around the choice and what information or support you need.
How much do online sessions cost from Doha?
Individual sessions cost £70 for 50 minutes. Couples sessions cost £100 per couple for 70 minutes. Fees are charged in British pounds. The introductory consultation is free and lasts 15–20 minutes.
What happens in the first consultation?
We discuss what brings you, your physical location, privacy and available times. You can ask about the approach and decide whether you want to continue. For couples, both partners attend the consultation.
