01What suitability means
Online therapy abroad depends on clinical suitability, privacy, risk, local emergency support, professional boundaries, insurance and the legal and ethical requirements of the country where you are located. I assess this with you before therapy begins, in line with BACP guidance on online and international working. For most people this is a short, simple conversation in the free consultation.
02What I consider
- Whether what you are bringing is clinically suitable for online work, or would be better served by in-person or more intensive support where you live.
- Whether you have a private, safe space to speak from.
- Whether there is meaningful local support available in an emergency, and who that would be.
- Any professional, legal or insurance considerations that apply to the country you are in.
03What this practice is not
I do not provide crisis or emergency support, and sessions are not monitored between appointments. If you are in immediate danger, or worried about your safety or someone else's, contact the local emergency services in the country where you are. If risk becomes a significant feature of our work, we will make a plan together that includes appropriate local support.
None of this is a barrier designed to keep people out. It is the groundwork that makes deep work safe to do from anywhere.
04The simple version
If you live abroad and are considering therapy, book a free consultation. We will talk about what you need, and I will tell you honestly whether online work with me is the right fit, or help you think about what would be.
