The Welcoming Guide

Fifteen pages on how I work, before you book a single session.

Most people arrive at a first consultation with a question they feel awkward asking: what happens, in what order, and what will it cost. This guide answers those before we meet. It covers individual therapy, couples therapy, couples living in two countries, cross-cultural relationships and co-parenting after separation, and it shows you the exact sequence of sessions from the first conversation onward.

PDF, 15 pages, under 1 MB. Opens in your browser. If you are coming as a couple, send it to your partner too, so you both arrive knowing how the work runs.

What is inside

Three ways in, one way of thinking.

People arrive alone, as a couple, or as two parents who are no longer a couple. The guide walks through each, then explains what stays the same underneath.

Individual therapy

Relationship anxiety, loneliness, family wounds, anger, low self-worth, the aftermath of abuse, or a life abroad where no one quite knows you.

Weekly 50-minute sessions, a review around session six, and one small thing to practise after each meeting.

Pages 7 and 12

Couples therapy

The same fight on repeat, distance, betrayal, or two cultures and two countries pulling in different directions. Gottman-informed, trauma-aware, and clear about what I will not do.

Includes a page for couples in different countries and a page for cross-cultural relationships.

Pages 8 to 10

Co-parenting after separation

Handovers, holidays, new partners, two sets of rules and one child in the middle. Structured, mediated conversations with one aim: a working parenting relationship.

Plain about what this work is not, and when a joint room is not safe enough to use.

Pages 2, 8 and 12. The guide also covers the pattern I listen for, Carepatron and fees, and what I ask of you.
If you come as a couple

The order of things.

Where a couple and I use the Gottman assessment format, the first sessions run in a fixed order. Both individual sessions are booked and completed before couples therapy begins.

1Free consultationBoth of you, 15 to 20 minutes
2Your individual session50 minutes, alone with me
3Your partner's individual session50 minutes, alone with me
4First joint sessionThe map, together
5Couples sessions70 minutes, ongoing

Why the individual sessions come first. Each of you gets to speak without managing the other person's reaction. I hear two histories, not one argument. I check for anything which would make joint work unsafe. And when we sit down together, nobody is meeting me for the first time while their partner watches. The guide sets out my no-secrets policy on page 12.

Read the full sequence, with what each session is for. The guide also covers the individual route and the co-parenting route, step by step.

Questions

About the guide

Do I have to read it before we speak?

No. The consultation works without it. Reading it first means you spend less of our 15 to 20 minutes on logistics and more on what brought you here.

Can my partner have a copy?

Yes. Send them the link or the PDF. It helps when both of you arrive knowing the individual sessions come before couples therapy, and why.

Is the guide the same for individual clients?

Yes. It is one guide with three routes in. The individual route is on pages 7 and 12. The couples pages are useful reading for individual clients too, because the pattern I listen for is the same whether you come alone or together.

Are the fees in the guide current?

The guide is dated September 2026 and states individual therapy at £70 for 50 minutes, couples therapy at £100 for 70 minutes and written counselling at £50 a week. Current fees are always confirmed on the fees and process page and before we begin.

Is the guide a form of therapy?

No. It explains how I work so you can decide whether to book. It does not replace therapy, medical care, legal advice or emergency support. If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.

Read it, then book

You do not need a perfect explanation before reaching out.

A simple outline of what has been difficult lately is enough. From there, we work out together whether individual therapy, couples therapy or co-parenting work is the right place to start.
